Bayview Halo
Bayview is one of the most exciting urban wildlife areas on the North Shore. Beautiful forests overflowing with wildlife abound in this scenic suburb. The number of reserves alone exemplifies how special it is: within the Halo can be found Glendhu Scenic reserve, Bonito reserve, Spinella reserve, Lynn reserve, Leigh reserve, Mānuka reserve and more!
In 2026/2027, we are looking for keen volunteers to start a new reserve group to work in and care for Lynn and Leigh Reserves. Reserve groups act as kaitiaki (caretakers) and champions of their local reserve, undertaking actions such as ecological monitoring, eradicating invasive pest plants and trapping invasive predators. If you have been thinking about volunteering, spending more time outdoors, connecting with neighbours, or simply curious to learn more about our native biodiversity and natural environment email us at team@pfk.org.nz to get involved!

Sat, 17th October - Lynn Reserve Guided Walk
10am - 12pm Rain date: 31st October
Join us in Lynn Reserve for a relaxing morning stroll through the bush and find out what treasures lie in your local reserve! Learn more about our native plants and animals that live here, and what we can do to help protect them. All are welcome, bring your friends and whānau and join us for some snacks and chat after.
Sat, 14th Nov - Lynn Reserve Weeding Bee
10am - 12pm Rain date: 21st November
Join us in Lynn Reserve for a weeding bee session to clear some invasive pest plants. Learn to identify some key pest plants in the reserve, why and how they harm native ecosystems, and how to get rid of them. This session will also include an onsite Kauri protection training to ensure that we keep our precious Kauri safe from kauri dieback while we undertake our mahi.
Sat, 28th Nov - Lynn Reserve BioBlitz

The Great Southern Bioblitz is happening across 4 days from 27th to 30th Nov, and we want to put Bayview on the map! A BioBlitz is a survey of biodiversity within a specified area time frame. During this period, participants aim to find and record as many species as possible within the time frame. BioBlitz' are a great way to learn more about the biodiversity of an area, including discovering new species and recording species range extensions. All you need is a device that can take photos and the inaturalist app.

Get pest plant or predator trapping advice, chat about climate action, native ecosystems and grab a free rat trap or rat bait while you're here!
