Kauri Glen Halo
Kauri Glen Halo
The Kauri Glen reserve and the adjoining Cecil Eady Bush and City View reserve are home to magnificent stands of mature kauri and tānekaha, with trees over 300 years old. They are also home to the nationally threatened maire tawake.
The Kauri Glen Halo area is encapsulated by the main roads that surround Kauri Glen: Pupuke Road, Raleigh Road, Lake Road, Onewa Road and Birkenhead Avenue. We are very fortunate to have these precious, ancient ecosystems in the heart of Kaipātiki, but they need our help!
You can help protect the biodiversity of Kauri Glen by making sure your property is free from invasive weeds, planting natives in your garden to support native wildlife, hosting predator traps to keep possum and rats numbers low, or volunteering to help look after one the reserve as part of a reserve group.
Reserve groups act as caretakers and champions of their local reserve, undertaking tasks such as ecological monitoring, eradicating invasive pest plants and trapping invasive predators. If you have been thinking about volunteering, spending more time outdoors, connecting with neighbours, or simply curious to learn more about our native biodiversity and natural environment, join us in Kauri Glen / Cecil Eady!
If you live in the area and would like to get involved with restoration activities, please email volunteers@pestfreekaipatiki.org.nz, or bookmark this page to check in on updates and upcoming events below:
