Working Together to Help Our Environment Thrive

Pest Free Kaipātiki was founded by volunteers and is first and foremost a volunteer organisation. Everyone is welcome - so come and talk to us about the range of opportunities we have for you to volunteer in your community.

Reserve Groups

Most major reserves in Kaipātiki have an active volunteer group doing pest plant and predator control. These groups are always looking for more volunteers.

They hold regular working bees - some weekly, others monthly - often on weekends. See our events page or get in touch with volunteers@pfk.org.nz to find out more.

Reserve Predator Control

For volunteers who prefer to keep to their own schedule, taking on a predator control line in a reserve can be a good way to make a big difference without joining a group. A reasonable level of fitness is required. Contact team@pfk.org.nz if you are interested in this role.

Halo Street Champions

Street champions inspire those around them to remove predators and pest plants on their own properties. With so much private property bordering reserves in Kaipātiki, taking care of our own backyards can really reduce the strain on the native bush reserves. Contact volunteers@pfk.org.nz if you are interested in this role.

Puāwai on Fridays

On Friday mornings, volunteers come to help out at Puāwai, PFK's headquarters in the old Glenfield Bowling Club, where we are setting up model gardens. If you like a bit of weeding or are handy with a hammer, come along and enjoy a free lunch with the volunteer and staff team. Email volunteers@pfk.org.nz to get involved.

There are lots of other opportunities that come up during the year - check out our banded rail bandits and citizen science campaigns. If you have particular skills in IT, graphic design, social media, or anything else that you think would benefit PFK, please get in touch for a chat.

Coming Soon - Volunteer Programme For Secondary School Students

We are in the process of developing an app-based programme for school students taking part in Duke of Edinburgh and other volunteer programmes. We hope to be piloting this in the second semester of 2026.
