Huge effort from volunteers to control moth plant this April
The Massive Moth Plant Hunt challenge during April helped to tackle one of our worst weeds with great efforts and mahi from lots of volunteers, new and old - a big thank you to you all, including everyone who reported moth plant sites.
Everyone who joined the challenge and contributed to moth plant removal will receive a free native plant. If that's you, we'll soon be in touch to arrange this.
Some numbers from the challenge
18 volunteers signed up to the challenge to find and tackle moth plant in their area.
These volunteers joined forces with experienced moth 'hit squad' volunteers to tackle over 100 sites.
An estimated 4000+ pods were removed and disposed of.
This is equivalent to an estimated 2 million seeds!
We don't always recognise the benefits that restoration activities like this have on our area. Without this effort by residents, volunteers and PFK, our neighbourhoods would look very different. Imagine a million or more moth plants growing around the area!
The work is not finished
Tackle moth plant whenever you can. Visit our Toolshed for info, advice, or to borrow tools and resources.
Keep reporting moth plant sightings, especially any with the big green pods, and report them using the EcoTrack app.
