Alex Knight joins the team as a new Restoration Advisor

Alex joins the Pest Free Kaipātiki team straight off the back of completing his PhD in wildlife epidemiology. His research focused on using population genetic methods to monitor and understand the health of wild passerine (perching bird or songbirds) populations.

Prior to his PhD, Alex’s career in conservation and ecology has been varied, working with conservation programmes and research projects in South America, Africa and New Zealand, including the role of the Kauri Dieback Ambassador for Pest Free Kaipātiki back in 2017. Alex’s interest in nature extends beyond his profession, spending much of his free time in the bush also. He is an avid tramper, climber, and trail runner and is always keen to get out and see more of this beautiful country. He is looking forward to getting stuck into Pest Free Kaipātiki’s buffer project and engaging in efforts to conserve the regional flora and fauna. He is excited to be working with an organisation that emphasises an active approach to conservation and works closely with the local community.
